“Kris and his team are excellent at what they do- show up on time, incredibly neat and professional and most importantly, reliable and trustworthy. I got on to Kris last minute and he did our house while we were away in 3 days. We're delighted with the results and I'd highly recommend.”

Interior comfort. Exterior protection.
Interior and exterior painting need different specifications. Indoors, light, cleaning and the way a room is used influence the finish. Outside, the background, moisture and exposure influence preparation and application. Alex Trend Painters provides painting across Dublin and Kildare, helping bring walls, ceilings, woodwork and suitable exterior surfaces into one clear scope.
Inside, compare colour samples in daylight and evening light before settling on a shade. Consider the appearance of the ceiling and trim alongside the walls, then choose a sheen and cleaning performance suited to the space. If you are refreshing several rooms together, our whole-home painting service explains how to organise an occupied property and coordinate the stages.
Outside, identify whether the surface is masonry, previously painted timber or another material before choosing a coating. Loose paint, open defects and persistent moisture need assessment before repainting. The exterior photographs in our portfolio show different colour combinations and building details; your own specification will follow the condition of your property.
A closer look at the work
Interior walls and ceilings
The aim is an even finish that suits the way the room is used. Existing paint, repaired areas and new plaster may need different preparation or priming. We discuss surface condition and the desired appearance before selecting the coating. In kitchens, hallways and busy spaces, consider cleaning needs as well as colour; a finish should be suitable for the particular substrate and use.
Doors, frames and trim
Woodwork brings the scheme into focus. A sharp contrast can emphasise a door frame, while a softer tone can make adjoining surfaces feel more connected. Sound preparation helps the new finish adhere to the existing coating. Doors, skirting, stair details and other trim should be named in the quote, with time allowed for the selected system to dry and cure.
Exterior walls and elevations
Exterior painting starts with the wall itself. We look at the existing finish, loose or flaking material, local damage and access. Cleaning, repairs and preparation must suit the substrate rather than follow the same recipe for every building. Coatings should be applied to a suitable surface in the conditions stated by their manufacturer; a fixed calendar date is not enough on its own.
External details and maintenance
Sills, doors, external timber and metalwork can need different coating systems from masonry. Identify them individually when planning the repaint, and mention difficult access, nearby planting or neighbouring boundaries. Painting can improve and protect a suitable surface, but deteriorated timber, active leaks or unsound material need appropriate attention before the decorative finish can perform as intended.
Let’s plan your interior & exterior painting project.
Send a few details about the property and the finish you have in mind. We’ll discuss the next step towards your quotation.
Plan the finish around the surface, not just the colour.
For an interior quote, list walls, ceilings and woodwork separately and mention stains, wallpaper or damaged plaster. For outside work, include the elevations, access height, existing coating and any areas that stay damp. Protection, repairs, preparation and the finish should be clear in the agreed scope. Plaster repairs and commercial painting can be coordinated where needed.
Exterior work needs a suitable application window and drying conditions for the chosen product. A dry-looking afternoon alone does not establish that a damp wall is ready. Include access equipment and weather-dependent stages when discussing timing. For practical preparation guidance, see Dulux Trade’s exterior preparation guide, then agree a coating system suited to your actual surface.
A few details make a difference.
- Your address or Eircode
- The rooms, surfaces or items involved
- The existing finish and any damage
- Your preferred timing and access details
- The look you would like to achieve
Local planning. Attention to your property.
Across Dublin and Kildare, sheltered walls and exposed elevations can weather differently on the same property. We consider the surface and access rather than applying one specification to every elevation. For apartments or shared buildings, tell us about management-company arrangements and shared access before scheduling an assessment.
Our offices are at 27 Pembroke Street Upper, Dublin 2, D02 X361, and 106 The Grove, Celbridge, Co. Kildare, W23 XH10. Contact the team to discuss your address and project before arranging a visit.

Interior & Exterior Painting: your questions answered
Have something else in mind? Talk to the team about your own property.
What affects the cost of interior and exterior painting?
The area is one factor; surface repairs, height, access, woodwork and the existing coating also matter. Exterior quotations may include access equipment and more extensive preparation. Ask for indoor and outdoor work to be itemised so you can compare the scope and choose whether to complete the project together or in stages.
When is the best time for exterior painting?
The right conditions depend on the chosen product and the surface. Temperature, rain, moisture and drying time matter more than a fixed month. We assess the forecast and substrate before application and discuss weather-related changes to the programme when needed.
Will new paint stop damp coming through?
A decorative coating is not a substitute for finding and correcting the cause of moisture. Persistent stains, damp or leaks should be investigated before repainting. Once the cause is resolved and the surface is suitable, the preparation and coating can be specified.
Can you paint over an existing coating?
That depends on its condition and compatibility. Sound existing paint may be suitable after preparation; flaking, contaminated or poorly adhered layers need attention first. Tell us about any previous failures and, if known, the product already on the surface.
How many coats will be needed?
Coverage depends on the paint system, colour change, substrate and preparation. Some surfaces need a primer or other preparation before the finishing coats. The specification should follow the product instructions and agreed result rather than a blanket promise for every surface.
Can you help coordinate indoor and outdoor colours?
We can discuss a joined-up scheme, but exterior daylight and indoor lighting can make the same colour look different. Compare samples in their intended setting and consider surrounding brickwork, roofing, flooring and fixed finishes before deciding.
Tell us about your project
A better quote starts with the right information. Include your Dublin or Kildare address, which rooms or surfaces you want refreshed, and any timing you have in mind. Mention wallpaper removal, uneven plaster or furniture spraying if they are part of the plan.
You don’t need to have every colour chosen before getting in touch. We can discuss what matters most: the look you want, the condition of the surfaces and how the work can fit around your home or business.
