Donard (historically Dunard, from Irish: Dún Ard, meaning “high fort”) is a small village in County Wicklow, Ireland, located at the northern end of the Glen of Imaal, in the western part of the Wicklow Mountains.

Donard takes its name from Dún Ard – High Fort – the ruins of which are still somewhat visible on a rise above the town. The tranquil village is surrounded by Table Mountain (702m), Church Mountain (546m), Lugnaquilla (924m) and Keadeen (655m).

Nearby in Derrynamuck (also known as Dernamuck or Doire na Muc) is a cottage dedicated to the memory of Michael Dwyer, a celebrated 1798 leader. It is well known as Dwyer’s Cottage, or the Dwyer-McAllister cottage, for it was here that a group of Irish rebels led by Michael Dwyer were hiding when they were surrounded by British troops. Samuel McAllister died when he drew enemy fire to allow Dwyer to escape, and thereby prevent further bloodshed as the British troops were killing innocent farmers in nearby cottages to reach Dwyer.

The highest mountain in Wicklow and one of the highest mountains in Ireland, second only to Carrauntoohil in Co. Kerry is Lugnaquilla, which can be accessed near the village of Donard. This mountain has a height of 925 metres(3,035ft). The Wicklow Mountain Rescue team operates in the area.

Much of the surrounding Glen of Imaal (5,948 acres) has been used as an army artillery range since 1900.

A post office was opened in Donard in 1851 and An Post closed it at the end of 2018.

There are two pubs in Donard. Toomey’s Bar and Monaghan’s Bar There is a shop, O’Keeffe’s Country Store and there is also a Caravan Campsite (Moat Farm) in Donard

Are you considering giving your home or business a new look? Do you need to repaint after a tenant has vacated your property? Do you have to repair water stains on ceilings and walls or over walls where mould was eliminated? It could be tempting to do the job yourself, which may lead to cost savings. However, there are many reasons you should consider selecting a professional painter and decorator service.

Costs of Equipment

Proper painting of either interiors or exteriors requires an investment in gear — brushes, rollers, sprayers, tarp to shield surfaces and surfaces, ladders, scaffolding, sanders, chemical knifes, patching materials, solvents, the list can quickly become long and pricey. Hiring a professional painter and decorator usually means that the painter comes with of the tools that they will require to do the work properly, will clean up those tools whenever they are done and will require them away to be saved elsewhere.

Protection of Your Property and Avoiding a Mess

A professional painter and decorator will have the right equipment and be educated and experienced with how to protect furniture, floors, cabinets, walkways and other items that you don’t want painted from any damage. If your work involves staining, a professional will have the right equipment and expertise to apply the stain properly to achieve the right finish and once achieved, shield the finish.
A professional painter will also thoroughly clean up the work area once the project is finished.

Preparation is Essential

An expert painter and painter is going to learn that preparation is the key to a great looking, long lasting paint job. The walls or other surfaces which need to be painted may need to be thoroughly cleaned, patched, degreased and/or primed. Areas with water or mold staining may require further therapy and diluting until they are ready for a final paint job. It is a good deal of work and if it is not done properly with proper instruments and methods, it won’t result in a quality finish.

Skills and Patience

Painting requires patience to generate a gorgeous quality finish and it also takes skill that is developed with practice and experience. A professional will learn how to finish each of their preparation and painting jobs required to achieve the best outcome.
Back in Dublin, there are a number of choices a professional painter and decorator can start for you, which you could not have the skills or experience to do your self, including special finishes (intumescent endings (that are fireproof), faux finishes and textured painting, for example).
A professional painter will also understand the materials which are needed to perform the work right. Which primer will offer the right coverage? Latex or oil? Matte, semi-gloss, high gloss? Which primer foundation is demanded? What paint base? If the wall be well prepared with drywall compound or plaster? Roller or spray?
A professional painter will be able to recommend materials that are best to get the look you need, while avoiding any damage to your surfaces. With that information, you can attain a higher quality finish that will endure.
For exterior jobs, a professional will know the right weather, temperature and sunlight conditions to finish the job with the best results. Stains respond differently in direct sunlight than when it is overcast, and at different temperatures. While rain clearly affects the job, heat and humidity can also affect the quality of outside paint finishes. A regional expert painter will understand the right materials to use to make your exterior last as long as possible in Dublin’s climate.

Security

Climbing on ladders while attempting to apply paint correctly is a skilled job which takes careful attention and focus to avoid serious injury and harm. The greater the site which needs painting, the greater the danger of an accident. For inside jobs with large areas or outside jobs, a professional painter may have all the resources and experience necessary to do the job correctly and safely, including the proper dimensions and design of ladder and scaffolding.

Convenience

Your time is valuable and painting yourself takes a substantial amount of time. Having a professional painter and decorator take care of the work for you can save you days and days of effort, and can usually be achieved in a far shorter period of time.
A research from Trinity College Dublin indicates that the average Irish person needs 28 hours per day to accomplish all of his or her tasks. Avoid adding a paint job to this and speak to a professional painter about your requirements.
