Donard (historically Dunard, from Irish: Dún Ard, meaning ‘high fort’) is a small village in County Wicklow, Ireland, located at the northern end of the Glen of Imaal, in the western part of the Wicklow Mountains.

Donard takes its name from Dún Ard – High Fort – the ruins of which are still somewhat visible on a rise above the town. The tranquil village is surrounded by Table Mountain (702m), Church Mountain (546m), Lugnaquilla (924m) and Keadeen (655m).

Nearby in Derrynamuck (also known as Dernamuck or Doire na Muc) is a cottage dedicated to the memory of Michael Dwyer, a celebrated 1798 leader. It is well known as Dwyer’s Cottage, or the Dwyer-McAllister cottage, for it was here that a group of Irish rebels led by Michael Dwyer were hiding when they were surrounded by British troops. Samuel McAllister died when he drew enemy fire to allow Dwyer to escape, and thereby prevent further bloodshed as the British troops were killing innocent farmers in nearby cottages to reach Dwyer.

The highest mountain in Wicklow and one of the highest mountains in Ireland, second only to Carrauntoohil in Co. Kerry is Lugnaquilla, which can be accessed near the village of Donard. This mountain has a height of 925 metres(3,035ft). The Wicklow Mountain Rescue team operates in the area.

Much of the surrounding Glen of Imaal (5,948 acres) has been used as an army artillery range since 1900.

A post office was opened in Donard in 1851 and An Post closed it at the end of 2018.

There are two pubs in Donard. Toomey’s Bar and Monaghan’s Bar There is a shop, O’Keeffe’s Country Store and there is also a Caravan Campsite (Moat Farm) in Donard

Are you contemplating giving your home or business a new look? Do you need to fix water stains on walls and ceilings or over walls in which mould has been removed? It may be tempting to do the task yourself, which may lead to cost savings. But, there are many reasons you should consider hiring a professional painter and decorator support.

Costs of Equipment

Employing a professional painter and decorator means that the painter comes with the tools they will need to do the job properly, will wash up those tools when they’re done and will take them away to be saved elsewhere.

Protection of Your Premises and Avoiding a Mess

A professional painter and decorator will have the ideal gear and be educated and experienced with how to shield furniture, floors, cupboards, paths and other items which you don’t want painted from any damage. If your job involves staining, a professional will have the right equipment and experience to use the stain properly to achieve the perfect finish and once attained, protect the finish.
A professional painter may also thoroughly clean up the work area when the job is completed.

Preparation is Key

An expert painter and painter will know that preparation is the trick to a great looking, long-lasting paint job. The walls or other surfaces that need to be painted might need to be thoroughly cleaned, patched, degreased and/or primed. Areas with mold or water staining may require further therapy and diluting until they are ready for a last paint job. It’s a good deal of work and if it is not done properly with proper tools and techniques, it will not result in an excellent finish.

Skills and Patience

Painting requires patience to produce a beautiful quality finish and in addition, it takes skill that is developed with training and expertise. A professional will understand how to finish each of their preparation and painting jobs required to achieve the best outcome.
In Dublin, there are a number of options that a professional painter and decorator may open for you, which you could not have the skills or experience to do your self, including special finishes (intumescent finishes (that are fireproof), faux finishes and textured painting, for instance ).
A professional painter may also know the substances which are required to do the job right. Which primer will offer the correct coverage? Oil or latex? Matte, semi-gloss, high gloss? Which primer base is demanded? What paint base? If the wall be prepared with drywall compound or plaster? Spray or roller?
A professional painter will have the ability to recommend materials which are best to achieve the look you want, while avoiding any damage to your surfaces. With this advice, you can achieve a higher quality finish that will last.
For exterior jobs, a specialist will know the ideal weather, temperature and sun conditions to finish the job with the best results. Stains respond differently in direct sunshine than when it is overcast, and at several temperatures. While rain clearly impacts the job, heat and humidity may also affect the quality of exterior paint finishes. A regional expert painter will know the right materials to use to produce your exterior last as long as possible in Dublin’s climate.

Safety

Increasing on ladders while attempting to apply paint correctly is a skilled job that requires careful attention and focus to avoid serious harm and harm. The higher the site which requires painting, the greater the risk for an crash. For interior jobs with large areas or outside jobs, an expert painter will have all the resources and experience necessary to do the work safely and correctly, including the right size and design of ladder and scaffolding.

Convenience

Your time is valuable and painting yourself takes a significant amount of time. Using a professional painter and decorator take care of the job for you can save you days and days of effort, and can usually be done in a much shorter time period.
A research from Trinity College Dublin suggests the average Irish man requires 28 hours per day to accomplish all of his or her tasks. Avoid including a paint job into that and speak to a professional painter about your needs.
