Grangecon (Irish: Gráinseach Choinn, meaning “Granary of the Hound”) is a village in County Wicklow, Ireland. It has a population of about 200 people, and is located between Baltinglass and Dunlavin.
While the name Grange Con is said to be of Celtic origin the earliest recorded history of it is from the Middle Ages when the Abbot of Baltinglass Abbey had a castle built there. The monks are also said to have had a mill there powered by the local stream. Most of the surrounding land belonged to the Abbey at the time.
Following the dissolution of the monasteries, Thomas Eustace was in 1541 made Viscount Baltinglass and granted the lands of the Abbey including the Castle and lands at Grangecon. These were forfeited in 1581 following a rebellion by the third Viscount and subsequently granted to Sir Henry Harrington. It appears that these lands remained in the Harrington family for a number of generations.
The house at Grangecon Demesne later became the seat of the O’Mahony clan and remained so until about 1930 when Pierce O’Mahony, the last “the O’Mahony” died. See for more detailed information about the O’Mahony connection with Grangecon.
Some ruins of an older castle still exist in the grounds but these are quite minimal.
Grangecon Demesne is now home to the well-known Grangecon Stud, breeder of top grade thoroughbred racehorses.

Spray Painting Services in Grangecon
Are you considering giving your home or business a fresh look? Do you need to repaint after a tenant has vacated your own property? Do you have to repair water stains on ceilings and walls or over walls where mould was removed? It may be tempting to do the task yourself, which can lead to cost savings. However, there are lots of reasons you should consider hiring a professional painter and decorator support.
Costs of Equipment
Hiring a professional painter and decorator means that the painter comes will all the tools they will need to do the work properly, will wash those tools up whenever they are completed and will take them away to be stored elsewhere.
Protection of Your Property and Preventing a Mess
A professional painter and decorator will have the right equipment and be knowledgeable and experienced with the way to shield furniture, floors, cabinets, walkways and other items that you don’t need painted out of any damage. If your job involves staining, a professional will have the right equipment and experience to use the stain correctly to achieve the right finish and once attained, shield that finish.
A professional painter will even completely clean up the work area when the job is finished.
Preparation is Key
A professional painter and painter is going to learn that preparation is the key to a good looking, long-lasting paint job. Areas with mold or water staining may require further therapy and diluting until they are prepared for a final paint job. It’s a lot of work and if it’s not done properly with appropriate instruments and methods, it won’t result in an excellent finish.
Skills and Patience
Painting requires patience to generate a gorgeous quality finish and it also takes skill that is developed with training and experience. An expert will learn how to finish all their preparation and painting tasks involved to reach the best effect.
A professional painter may also understand the materials that are required to perform the job correctly. Which primer will offer the correct coverage? Oil or latex? Matte, semi-gloss, high gloss? Which primer foundation is required? What paint base? Roller or spray?
A professional painter will have the ability to recommend materials that are better to achieve the look you need, while preventing any harm to your surfaces. With this advice, you can achieve a greater quality finish that will endure.
For exterior jobs, a professional will know the ideal weather, temperature and sun conditions to complete the job with all the best outcomes. Stains react differently in direct sunshine than when it is overcast, and at several temperatures. While rain clearly impacts the job, humidity and heat may also impact the quality of exterior paint finishes.
Climbing on ladders while attempting to apply paint properly is a skilled job which requires careful focus and attention to avoid severe harm and damage. The higher the site that requires painting, the greater the danger of an crash. For interior jobs with large areas or outside jobs, a professional painter will have all the tools and experience necessary to do the work safely and correctly, including the right dimensions and design of the ladder and scaffolding.
Your time is valuable and painting yourself requires a significant quantity of time. Having a professional painter and decorator take care of the work for you can save you days and times of effort, and can normally be achieved in a much shorter period of time.
A research from Trinity College Dublin suggests that the average Irish person requires 28 hours per day to accomplish all his or her tasks. Avoid adding a paint job to that and speak to a professional painter about your needs.
