Grangecon (Irish: Gráinseach Choinn, meaning “Granary of the Hound”) is a village in County Wicklow, Ireland. It has a population of about 200 people, and is located between Baltinglass and Dunlavin.
While the name Grange Con is said to be of Celtic origin the earliest recorded history of it is from the Middle Ages when the Abbot of Baltinglass Abbey had a castle built there. The monks are also said to have had a mill there powered by the local stream. Most of the surrounding land belonged to the Abbey at the time.
Following the dissolution of the monasteries, Thomas Eustace was in 1541 made Viscount Baltinglass and granted the lands of the Abbey including the Castle and lands at Grangecon. These were forfeited in 1581 following a rebellion by the third Viscount and subsequently granted to Sir Henry Harrington. It appears that these lands remained in the Harrington family for a number of generations.
The house at Grangecon Demesne later became the seat of the O’Mahony clan and remained so until about 1930 when Pierce O’Mahony, the last “the O’Mahony” died. See for more detailed information about the O’Mahony connection with Grangecon.
Some ruins of an older castle still exist in the grounds but these are quite minimal.
Grangecon Demesne is now home to the well-known Grangecon Stud, breeder of top grade thoroughbred racehorses.

Painting Contractors Services in Grangecon
Are you considering giving your house or business a new look? Do you have to fix water stains on ceilings and walls or over walls where mold has been removed? It may be tempting to do the job yourself, which may lead to cost savings. However, there are many reasons you should consider selecting a professional painter and decorator support.
Costs of Equipment
Hiring a professional painter and decorator means that the painter comes will all of the tools they will require to perform the job correctly, will wash those tools up whenever they’re completed and will take them away to be saved elsewhere.
Protection of Your Property and Preventing a Mess
A professional painter and decorator will have the right gear and be educated and knowledgeable about the way to protect furniture, flooring, cupboards, paths and other items that you don’t want painted from any damage. If your work entails staining, a professional will have the right equipment and expertise to apply the stain properly to achieve the perfect finish and once attained, protect that finish.
A professional painter will also completely clean the work area once the project is finished.
Preparation is Key
An expert painter and painter will know that preparation is the key to a good looking, long lasting paint job. The walls or other surfaces that have to be painted may need to be thoroughly cleaned, patched, decreased and/or primed. Areas with mold or water staining may require additional treatment and diluting until they are ready for a final paint job. It is a lot of work and if it is not done correctly with appropriate instruments and techniques, it won’t result in a quality finish.
Skills and Patience
Painting requires patience to generate a beautiful quality finish and in addition, it takes skill that is developed with training and expertise. An expert will learn how to finish all their preparation and painting tasks involved to achieve the best effect.
A professional painter may also know the materials which are required to perform the work right. Which primer will provide the right coverage? Oil or latex? Matte, semi-gloss, high gloss? Which primer foundation is demanded? What paint foundation? Spray or roller?
A professional painter will have the ability to recommend materials that are best to get the look you want, while avoiding any harm to your surfaces. With that information, you can achieve a higher quality finish that will last.
For outdoor tasks, a specialist will know the right weather, temperature and sun conditions to finish the job with the best results. Stains react differently in direct sunlight than when it is overcast, and at several temperatures. While rain obviously impacts the job, humidity and heat may also impact the quality of exterior paint finishes.
Climbing on ladders while trying to apply paint correctly is a skilled job which requires careful focus and attention to avoid serious injury and harm. The greater the site which requires painting, the greater the danger of an accident. For interior projects with large areas or exterior jobs, a professional painter may have all the resources and experience required to do the work safely and correctly, including the proper size and layout of ladder and scaffolding.
Your time is precious and painting yourself takes a substantial quantity of time. Having a professional painter and decorator deal with the work for you can save you days and days of work, and can normally be achieved in a much shorter time period.
A research from Trinity College Dublin suggests the average Irish person needs 28 hours daily to accomplish all his or her tasks. Prevent including a paint job into that and speak to a professional painter about your needs.
